Edgardo Navarro was born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. A graduate of the Villa Arson in Nice and the School of Fine Arts in Leipzig, he studied under the tutelage of Professor Neo Rauch. The Mexican artist’s work has been the subject of personal exhibitions in various Institutions and galleries. The crossbred thinking of his native country, a melting pot of eras and civilizations, has accustomed him to multiplying the focal points on the same reality. His artistic universe is based on the interweaving of the history of painting and his personal journey.
Edgardo Navarro’s canvases offer themselves to us as doors to parallel universes. Each element may become a key to the mystery. Horizons, lenses, mirrors, windows, cacti, weavings and absent glances take us on board a kaleidoscopic ballet of mirages and optical illusions.
Subtly, without realizing it, the images lodge incisively in our mind, and we adopt the role of their characters, occupying strangely familiar spaces. The figuration, so evident in the painter’s work, is encrypted. His images dialogue with Renaissance perspective, Flemish morphology, symbolist light, the grit of Mexican murals and the playfulness of geometry.
